The ebook Sustainable Development Goals: Experiences from the Local Level. Tlajomulco in the Context of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. Volume III: Social and Governmental Aspects analyzes the social and institutional dimension of sustainable development at the municipal level, emphasizing that the implementation of the 2030 Agenda requires strengthening both public policies and local governance capacities. The volume is grounded in the premise that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can only be consolidated when articulated with processes of social inclusion, citizen participation, and institutional transparency.
The book examines the interrelationship between quality education (SDG 4), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17), showing how these pillars shape a strategic framework for territorial well-being. Through empirical studies and conceptual analyses, it addresses issues such as structural inequality, access to public services, accountability mechanisms, and trust in municipal institutions.
The volume also highlights the importance of multilevel governance and coordination among public, private, and social actors to promote policies consistent with international commitments. It proposes guidelines aimed at strengthening strategic planning, performance evaluation, and the design of social indicators to measure progress in equity, cohesion, and participation.
Overall, the work provides a rigorous analytical framework that positions Tlajomulco as a territorial laboratory of social innovation and sustainable governance, demonstrating that comprehensive development requires strong institutions, active citizenship, and evidence-based public policies.
