The ebook Sustainable Development Goals: Experiences from the Local Level. Tlajomulco in the Context of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, Volume II: Environmental Care, offers a comprehensive analysis of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the municipal level. Focusing on the case of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, the study examines how the principles of universality, interconnection, and indivisibility of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are translated into concrete actions within the territory, particularly in the environmental sphere.
The volume develops an interdisciplinary approach that integrates ecological, social, economic, and institutional dimensions, underscoring the need for intersectoral governance to address complex challenges. Among the topics discussed are social vulnerability to flooding in the context of climate change (SDG 13), sustainable water management (SDG 6), conservation of terrestrial ecosystems (SDG 15), the relationship between urbanism and climate action (SDGs 11 and 13), automobility and its carbon footprint, as well as the design of strategies for biogas production from agricultural waste as a local energy alternative.
In addition, the book analyzes university and municipal initiatives aimed at strengthening territorial resilience, sustainable urban planning, and the protection of natural areas, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to assess progress and challenges. The volume not only documents experiences but also proposes strategic guidelines for evidence-based public policy formulation aligned with international sustainability commitments.
Overall, the work represents a rigorous academic contribution demonstrating how local action can become a laboratory for sustainable governance, offering a replicable model for other metropolitan municipalities seeking to integrate development, social justice, and environmental stewardship within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
